MAKERS MONDAY: Zoe MacPherson

I’m a teenage creator from Regina, Saskatchewan just trying to find time to create work for anyone to enjoy.

I create drawings of semi-realism out of alcohol markers. Usually just they are just random characters from my head or people/characters from pop culture. (Cartoons, television shows, etc...)

Why do you create?
I create for extremely selfish reasons, completely and utterly for myself. As long as I like what I’m doing WHO CARES?!

How has your art practice evolved since you first started?
When I first started drawing I watched a lot of anime (Japanese cartoons) so I would trace the characters from those. I also never really grew up and have continued watching cartoons as a young adult which I believe really sparks my creative side. After tracing some crazy characters I decided to come up with my own,,, and here I am!

How much time do you spend on your art practice? Is it enough?
I used to spend all my time creating, but now I have many other things distracting me. With schoolwork, rehearsal, work, and The 90s sitcom “Friends” it’s hard to make time, but I will! ...soon

What is the most rewarding part of creating?
For me it’s the end product! Sure, the process is exciting, but nothing is better than taking a step back and enjoying something that is finished.

Do you have a creative philosophy?
Not quite yet...maybe later (haha)

What does creative joy mean to you?
Creative joy is not just in visual art for me, I am involved in drama programs and I find they have a different kind of creative joy that I just love. The community is amazing and accepting, I could not live without it.
