MAKERS MONDAY: Abstractions by Lani Gellner
Maker Bio & Background
Hello! I am Lani from Abstractions. I am an abstract artist. I paint in an acrylic medium all kinds of different abstract artworks.
Description of your products
I create bright colorful paintings using knives, brushes and wall paper scrapers etc. In various different techniques
Why do you create?
The thought of starting a new piece of art is very exciting and the thrill of applying all different kinds of wild colors to the canvas energizes me
How has your art practice evolved since you first started?
I started painting landscapes in oils which I did for 20 years and made a lot of them for friends and family and sold a few at various shows. But I then took an interest in the acrylic medium and liked how versatile and quick drying it was. I was able to experiment with so many different styles with this medium and the world of abstract art opened its arms to me!
How much time do you spend on your art practice? Is it enough?
I have a studio in my basement and am painting at least 5 times a week.
What is the most rewarding part of creating?
Just seeing the picture that the paint in itself makes. Everyone sees something different in my work. It catches the eye.
Do you have a creative philosophy?
Just open your mind and let your imagination soar!!
What does creative joy mean to you?
It makes me happy to create a new piece of art and it is very fulfilling to display the paintings to people and see their reactions to my art
